ISOTRA, a leading European manufacturer of shading technology, approached us to create a modern B2B customer portal. Despite our 17 years of software development experience, including large-scale e-commerce solutions, this project was a challenge. ISOTRA manufactures a wide range of blinds, awnings, pergolas, and accessories, supplying them to 43 countries worldwide. In terms of complexity and planned functionality, the portal project ranked among the most technically and user-experience demanding projects we have ever delivered.

In the summer of 2022, we were invited to tender for the customer portal project. ISOTRA had been working with another software company on the initial analysis, but our proposal and approach better matched their needs, which is how we won the bid.
Fairly soon after the project kicked off, it became clear that many of the assumptions and specifications from the original analysis didn't align with reality, which forced us to adapt quickly and adjust the solution to new requirements on the fly. There was simply no way we could have managed without agile project management.

ISOTRA needed not only to modernize the way its partners placed orders, but also to ensure seamless integration with its internal systems. The key requirement was connecting the web configurator with the K2 information system and the product configurator, so that partners could receive real pricing calculations for product configurations based on manufacturing specifications, with orders going directly into production.

One of the key project challenges was integration with ISOTRA's existing systems specifically the K2 information system and the Infor CPQ product configurator, supplied by ITEuro. The integration assumptions from the original analysis proved unusable, so our software architects had to work together with K2 and ITEuro specialists to design a new solution ensuring all three systems communicate effectively and enable real data flow from quote to production.
Key requirements for third-party system integration:
- Seamless bidirectional communication between the customer portal, K2 system, and Infor CPQ configurator.
- Real-time synchronization of product, pricing, and manufacturing specification data.
- Ensuring data reliability and consistency across the entire system to prevent configuration and calculation errors.

Our UX teams therefore reassessed the overall design and focused on key processes such as bulk product entry into quotes and digitalization of the entire business cycle, including complaints.

Development
and coordination
The overall project development required close collaboration between multiple teams. While Cognito handled portal development and third-party system integration, ITEuro was responsible for implementing the Infor CPQ configurator. Regular communication and ongoing coordination played a key role, ensuring that despite the technical challenges, development proceeded efficiently and on schedule.
Launch
and future plans
The portal was successfully launched in spring 2024, and ISOTRA's first business partners are already actively using it. Development followed an agile approach in collaboration with a team of 15 specialists from Cognito, ISOTRA, and ITEuro. By the end of 2024, it will be fully deployed across all 43 countries where ISOTRA operates. The system supports 7 language versions and serves over 3,000 partners. We also plan further system development, including the implementation of artificial intelligence to simplify localization, technical support, and onboarding of new partners.
