We developed an application that allows guests to order food and drinks and pay the bill directly from their phone by scanning a QR code. Smart Table builds on the SmartTips platform and integrates with POS systems such as Storyous and Dotykačka.
Order and pay
without waiting for staff
Following the success of the SmartTips cashless tipping platform, the client came to us with a new product. Smart Table allows guests in restaurants and hotels to order food and drinks and pay the bill directly from their phone by scanning a QR code on the table.
The goal was to cover the entire restaurant visit cycle from ordering through reordering to payment and tipping in a single application. No installation, no registration the guest simply scans the QR code and has full control over their tab.
Scan, choose,
order, and pay
The guest scans a QR code on the table and instantly sees the restaurant's current menu. They select items, add them to the cart, and submit the order. The kitchen and staff see it in real time.
When the guest wants to pay, they scan the QR code again and see the current tab pulled from the POS system. They can pay the full bill or split it, add a tip, and leave without waiting for a waiter with a card terminal. The system supports multilingual menus, food photos, and allergen information.
Menu management
and operational overview
The operator manages the menu, prices, and item availability through an admin interface. They can mark items as sold out, reorder categories, or add a daily special.
The dashboard displays an overview of active orders by table, order statistics, and the average check value. The operator has full control over the entire operation from one place.
POS integration:
Storyous, Dotykačka and more
Smart Table integrates with POS systems such as Storyous and Dotykačka. Mobile orders arrive in the POS just like orders from a waiter the kitchen sees them on the display in real time.
Thanks to the POS integration, the guest sees the current state of their tab at checkout, including items entered by the waiter. Payment and tipping run through the SmartTips ecosystem. The entire cycle from order through preparation to payment is covered by a single system.

Our
approach
From extending the existing platform through designing the ordering and payment flow to integrating with restaurant POS systems.
Architecture analysis and extension
We designed the extension of the SmartTips platform with an ordering module. We leveraged the existing infrastructure and added new components for menu and order management.
UX design of the ordering flow
We designed a user interface optimized for speed. A guest must be able to place an order within 30 seconds of scanning the QR code.
Backend a REST API
We extended the Symfony backend with menu management, order logic, and real-time notifications for the kitchen and staff.
POS integration and payments
We connected the system with POS platforms such as Storyous and Dotykačka. Orders and payments function as part of normal operations the guest sees their current tab and can pay directly from their phone.
Deployment and pilot operation
We deployed the application on Kubernetes and launched a pilot at selected venues that were already using SmartTips.
Technology
stack
Smart Table is built on the same technological foundation as SmartTips the Marco 3.0 e-commerce platform based on PHP and Symfony with hexagonal architecture. The frontend is powered by React, the database runs on PostgreSQL. The solution is containerized in Docker and deployed on Kubernetes.
