After a year and a half of operation, the ChytráLékárna.cz e-shop had grown to a point where it no longer served either customers or the client's business goals. The website originally combined the presentation of brick-and-mortar pharmacies with online sales, which led to poor orientation, complicated navigation, and a less efficient purchasing process. The goal of the redesign was to give clear priority to the e-shop and significantly improve the usability of the entire solution.

What was

the challenge?

The biggest problem with the first version of the Chytralekarna.cz website was that it tried to serve two functions at once online sales and presentation of brick-and-mortar pharmacies. The e-shop ended up buried in the second level of navigation, and on the homepage, online and offline promotions competed for attention, which confused customers especially the difference between online sale prices and in-store prices.

During the first year of operation, revenue, order volume, and product categories all grew medical supplies, adult wellness products, and a chilled goods section were added alongside medications. The original design had reached its limit, and further growth required a redesign with a clear priority: online sales.

Back to the

The redesign meant going back to the beginning of the project — target group priorities shifted and the importance of online sales increased dramatically. This was reflected on the homepage and in the main menu, which transformed into a product-focused menu.

We incorporated all changes into an interactive prototype, and already during testing it was clear we were on the right track. Users navigated categories and homepage promotions more easily. At the same time, we reworked the product filtering options and prepared space for personalized offers through Luigi's Box integration.

The redesign also included a subtle visual style refinement our art director Petra Kašparová stripped away decorative but production-heavy ornaments from the original corporate identity. By removing certain purely decorative details from the design, we enabled the client to prepare their own promotional banners for sales and events. All they need is the set of templates we created for them as part of the redesign. The design remained clearly distinguishable from the competition.

Technical

implementation

The development team implemented the new design in two months. To keep costs down, designers didn't create detailed mockups for every subpage. Developers worked from the design system and only consulted the designer on text page adjustments.

A key part was the complete implementation of personalized offers via Luigi's Box. We chose a more demanding backend implementation to preserve the ability for administrators to prioritize listings and insert banner placements. We connected personalized recommendation engines, product sorting within categories, and upsell and cross-sell offers in the cart and checkout.

And what were

the results

Above all a happier customer. Both our client, who is thrilled with an e-shop that can confidently compete with the biggest players on the market (and is steadily becoming one of them), and the e-shop's own customers, who can find and purchase the products they want more easily. We have evidence for both claims. Thanks to the redesign, we achieved a year-over-year increase in conversion rate of 28%, which means more effective campaigns and higher revenue with the same traffic.
